Join the Woodland Trust today and help us save ancient woodland

New booklet, PDFDear Supporter

Did you know that even when appliances are switched off, they still consume electricity if the plug sockets are left on? (See this newspaper article for details.) So switching off at the wall will help you save money and be good for the planet.

This is one of the personal pledges we're asking you to make as part of the 'Stop Climate Chaos' campaign. Taking action now is vital, because climate change is the greatest threat to native woodland, particularly ancient woods that are most vulnerable to loss and damage.

Another challenge is to walk or cycle instead of driving to work. We encouraged our employees to walk to work during Green Transport week. The majority did, and even those living far away participated by taking public transport or car-sharing. It's inspired us to start a long-term scheme for staff, part of the UK-wide lift sharing network, which you can join too.

Taking your holidays at home is another green transport solution, benefiting the UK economy and the environment. Remember, every plane journey you take contributes significantly to CO2 levels and that rising demand for air travel is leading to unsustainable airport expansion. (See the Rethink campaign below.)

Spread the word to your family and friends too, because every small change towards cutting carbon emissions makes a big difference in the battle against climate change. Most importantly, make sure the UK Government takes its responsibilities to cut greenhouse gas emissions seriously. Act now - Stop Climate Chaos.

You can also help us monitor climate change by becoming a Nature Detective (under 18s) or a Nature's Calendar recorder (over 18s). We've just revamped our websites for both these exciting projects.

Kind regards,
Sue Holden, chief executive
