Dear Supporter, Ed Pomfret - Head of Campaigns at the Woodland Trust

Ancient woodland is the UK's equivalent of the rainforest, it's our richest landscape for wildlife yet it only covers around 2% of the UK. Despite this, across the UK, ancient woods are threatened. Nearly half the ancient woodland that survived until the 1930s has since been destroyed or degraded and that damage is continuing.

The total area of ancient woods currently threatened is equivalent to the size of Birmingham.

But, all is not lost - with your help we can fight the threat. We have launched our new WoodWatch campaign to empower local communities like yours to take action to defeat the threats to woodland. At www.woodwatch.org.uk you can find all the resources and information to give you the tools you need to tackle these cases. You can also join up with other WoodWatchers on our Facebook page. Please take time to become a WoodWatcher - find out where your nearest ancient woodland is and keep a lookout for any threats to that wood - with your help we can stop this destruction.

Best wishes,
Ed Pomfret
Head of Campaigns
