Dear Supporter
One of the most exciting moments for me, in the last six
months, was when I spotted my first ever red-tailed
bumblebee. This is one of the six species we
asked you to look out for this year, as part of
Springwatch in
association with the BBC. But did you know that in last
year's campaign, over 80,000 of you also recorded things,
generating over 160,000 entries?
That's one of the fascinating facts just revealed in our
Annual Review. Other interesting statistics are that we've
now engaged over a quarter of a million people with the Tree For All
campaign and had over two million visitor
sessions to our family of websites. If you're a
member, we'll be posting out your copy this week. However,
you can also
view it online.
We're constantly developing new and innovative web-based
resources to help you get more involved in our work. One of these is our
new
woodland dedication website. My family asked friends and
acquaintances to donate money for trees instead of buying flowers
in memory of my grandfather. Everyone felt it was a wonderful and
appropriate way to remember him.
However, commemorating the life of someone dear to you is
only one type of woodland dedication. We all have life
changing events... a new birth, a wedding or a special
anniversary. Woodland dedications are a wonderful way to
mark these in a lasting way.
We'd also really like to know what you think of the new
woodland dedication website. Please take a few moments to
visit it and complete our short
questionnaire.
Kind regards,
Sue Holden, chief executive

Our woods
win audit's approval
An audit of Trust
woods has revealed that we're meeting the
highest standards of woodland management. The
results, part of an annual survey by the Soil
Association into sustainable forestry management
against criteria laid down by the FSC (Forest
Stewardship Council), demonstrate that we
practice what we preach.

Young tree champions may need
more help
Research conducted in
Northern Ireland into children's attitudes to
woodland has revealed that though 80% think
trees are important and 40% have planted a tree,
the majority know little about them and only 2%
think of woodland as somewhere to play and learn
outdoors.
