Dear Supporter,
I’ve
just returned from the Labour Party Conference where we jointly held a
fringe event on helping people, habitats and wildlife adapt to climate
change, while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions. More...
As
well as protecting our most valuable habitats, we believe whole
landscapes must be made more resilient so they can absorb change.
This includes extending, buffering and connecting habitats, as well
as creating new places for wildlife to move in response to climate
change. More (PDF)...
During the event I used examples which our phenology recorders have helped collect that the
natural world is made of millions of complex relationships, which are delicately balanced and can easily be
disturbed. For instance, great tits are hatching later than their food source, the winter
moth caterpillar. More...
We also challenged the Government to improve the planning system and the climate
change bill. The planning system must be an environmental tool, as much
as it is an economic and social tool, and the climate change bill needs
much tougher targets! Both should deliver adaptation.
I'm now off to Blackpool on Monday to do the same thing at the Conservative Party Conference.
Kind regards,
Sue Holden, chief executive
